Welcome to the Charleston Association of Legal Assistants ("CALA")! It is an honor to be serving during the year of our 30th Anniversary! What an amazing feat this organization has accomplished and with your dedication, I am positive that we will continue for many years to come.
Since I have had the privilege of taking over the reins, I feel the presence of those before me, masters of our field of work, and I hope that I may live up to the standards that have been previously set. Though I may have taken the title of President, I am hardly alone. Our newly appointed Executive Board and I are devoted to see CALA grow strong as a central hub for paralegals/legal assistants, attorneys, and students who need to access information in this career.
We are constantly seeking new ideas and ways to achieve a high standard of professionalism throughout the Lowcountry. Continuing legal education is important to us and we consistently maintain credit hours, in accordance with NALA guidelines, through speakers at our membership meetings and our annual seminar. Our membership meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every other month with special events held in between. The subjects of confidentiality and ethics, which are both essential in our field, can be sometimes overlooked in our daily routine. We hope to address these topics, but with contemporary and exciting twists. Please see our Calendar of Events for upcoming details.
I encourage you to attend one of our educational membership meetings or social events to have a chance to meet and network with other legal professionals in the area. If you are already a member, consider volunteering on a committee to put your unique ideas on the table. This organization is a group effort and I hope that you join us in striving to be a distinguished association in our community. I am available for your comments, questions, and suggestions, and I look forward to serving as your President.
And remember, the best is yet to come!
